Francine’s ‘locked down’ fur babies

Even pets are adjusting to quarantine life.
This is according to actress Francine Prieto, who together with her husband, American biologist Frank Shotkoski, takes care of three pets—Wafu, a Shih Tzu; Falkor, a Pekingese; and Jupiter, a Russian blue.
“They still have physical activity, but not as much as before ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) was implemented,” the actress tells Inquirer Entertainment.
For a month now, the government has been requiring citizens to stay home and practice social distancing to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“The dogs used to roam … outside all the time. Now, the only time they get to go outdoors is when Frank takes them out with him to buy essentials. My cat is the least affected because he is always inside the house,” she adds.
Francine says she has already been taking care of three dogs when she met Frank—one dog passed away because of old age.
“Frank also likes animals because he grew up in a farm ranch in Nebraska. He adores cats in particular. Whenever we see stray cats, he would try to touch them. Sometimes, he would even carry them,” Francine says.
This is why, Francine adds, she was able to overcome her fear of cats.
“Before Jupiter, who is turning 6 months old this April, I wasn’t affectionate toward cats. I don’t trust them because I always felt that they’re ready to attack me whenever I approach them,” she admits.
To take care of her fur babies, Francine says she takes them to the groomer every other month for coat trimming.
“We also bring them to the vet for vaccine or when they’re sick with something that I can’t cure using home remedies,” she adds.
Francine often feeds them dry and wet pet food, “but I also give them human food as treats sometimes.”
“They love beef and pork. My Pekingese even enjoys green mangoes,” she says.
