After Bea Alonzo handed out face shields to frontliners battling COVID-19, the actress taught her followers how to make do-it-yourself (DIY) face shields in the hope of encouraging them to also help out.

Alonzo’s DIY shields project aims to address the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), masks and face shields at hospitals. The “One More Chance” star showed the process via her Instagram page yesterday, April 9.

The materials needed for a face shield are plastic film, thin garter or elastic band, foam with double adhesive tapes and a puncher.

Alonzo described the process as very simple and said it could be done under five minutes.

To create the face shield, first, Alonzo slightly folded the transparent film crosswise to evenly punch holes through the top corner of the film using the puncher.

Then, the actress took the foam with double-sided adhesives and placed it in between the two holes in the film. After that, Alonzo put the garter on both sides of the film and secured it with a double knot.

She then slightly bent the finished product as a finishing touch, to follow the shape of a person’s forehead.

By the end of the tutorial, Alonzo called for suppliers of the face shield’s materials. Alonzo revealed that her 2,000 raw materials were dwindling and she needed more supplies to create more face shields. She also told everyone to stay safe and advised them to stay home if they can.
