GMA Network: Eddie Garcia’s family first to receive copy of investigation report
MANILA, Philippines — GMA Network clarified on Tuesday the family of Eddie Garcia was the first to receive a copy of the investigation report of the accident involving the late veteran actor.
During the Senate committee hearing on occupational safety and health standards held Monday, Garcia’s partner Lilibeth Romero said GMA did not want to give her a copy of the investigation report and she “begged” for it through her lawyer.
“This is not true. In fact, their family was the first to be furnished a copy of the investigation report,” GMA Network said Tuesday in a statement.
The network said it informed Garcia’s family through Dr. Tony Rebosa regarding the initial investigation, but Romero was out of the country at the time.
“When the Network finished its internal investigation, the family of Mr. Garcia, through Dr. Tony Rebosa, was immediately informed about it,” GMA Network said.
“The Network coordinated with Dr. Rebosa and mentioned to him that GMA wanted the family to see the report first before releasing it to anyone else. Ms. Romero, however, was out of the country at that time,” it added.
GMA said it delayed the release of the report to let Romero see it first before giving a copy to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
“The Network subsequently agreed to delay the release to enable Ms. Romero to see the investigation result first upon her arrival. The said report was submitted to DOLE after a copy was given to the family,” the network said.
Garcia passed away last June 20 at the age of 90 after suffering a neck fracture when he tripped on a cable wire during the taping of a GMA series. /muf
