Yasmien explains why transparency is crucial for married couples

We know how much money the other earns. But we don’t compute or determine who’s contributing the bigger amount.

You can’t be selfish,” said Yasmien Kurdi, who believes it’s crucial for married couples like her and husband, Rey Soldevilla, to be transparent when it comes to their finances.

“Your money is also your partner’s money.

What I earn is his; what he earns is mine. What I own … my properties are his and vice versa. And that’s fine, because he’s my spouse. We will continue helping each other until we get old, so we could have a good life after,” stressed the actress, who also takes care of the household budget.

“But we also make sure to set aside something for ourselves if there’s anything we want to buy, for personal needs,” she told reporters at a recent press conference. “The rest goes to our savings.

But more than money matters, it’s imperative, Yasmien stressed, that a couple maintains a healthy support dynamic when it comes to their respective endeavors.

“We support each other’s careers. If I don’t have a personal assistant, Rey drives me around and goes with me,” she said of her husband, who’s a commercial pilot. “In turn, I cook for him, does his laundry and iron his clothes if he needs help.”

And even if they both have busy and erratic schedules, they see to it to have enough time for their 6-year-old daughter, Ayesha. “It all boils down to proper time management and identifying your priorities,” she pointed out.

Yasmien is part of GMA 7’s upcoming action series, “Beautiful Justice,” where she shares equal billing with Gabbi Garcia and Bea Binene.

Is she OK with that, despite the fact that she’s the more senior and experienced actor in the group?

“We have all different personalities and roles. And that’s nice because we get to help each other. We’re like sisters,” said the 30-year-old actress. “I immediately accepted the project because it’s out of my comfort zone. “I’m excited because I’m doing action this time around—and on prime time, too.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
