‘Sunod’ replaces Kris Aquino’s ‘(K)ampon’ as MMFF entry

MANILA, Philippines — “Sunod,” a horror film starring Carmina Villarroel and Mylene Dizon, is now an official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The film, produced by Ten17P, will replace Kris Aquino’s horror film “(K)ampon” as an official entry, the MMFF announced in its Facebook page Tuesday.

“(K)ampon” was previously disqualified by the MMFF Executive Committee for filing its request for a change in lead actor beyond the July 30 deadline.

Aquino shared her disappointment on the matter in an Instagram post.

“Section 12 of Rule III of the 2019 MMFF Rules and Regulations provides that in cse of disqualification, the vacant slot shall be automatically filled by the next-in-rank of the same film genre,” the announcement read.

“Per the ranking of the Selection Committee, ‘Sunod’ is the horror film next-in rank to the film ‘(K)ampon.’”

“Sunod” is the fourth film joining the MMFF line-up for this year, alongside “Momalland,” which stars Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis; “Mission Unstapabol: The Don Identity” with Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza; and the “Miracle in Cell No. 7” adaptation featuring Aga Muhlach and Bela Padilla.

Meanwhile, the next four films joining the MMFF 2019 line-up will be selected from among finished movies. The deadline for finished film submission is on Sept. 20.
