Gerald Anderson asks public to ‘be careful of false info’ and use social media responsibly

Gerald Anderson is advising the public to use social media responsibly, following claims that terrorist groups use it for recruitment.

The actor also spoke about peace and terrorism issues during a talk in General Santos City, as per his Instagram post last Saturday, Aug. 17.

In light of the supposed recruitment of terrorist groups via social media, Anderson warned his fans and followers to be cautious of false information online.

Armed Forces of the Philippines spokesperson Marine Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo mentioned the use of social media in terrorist plans, as per the Philippine News Agency last Friday, Aug. 16.

“One of the platforms, a potent one, that these terrorists use in order [to] recruit and to convert individuals into violent extremists is through social media that they made as a platform to glorify, promote and advance terrorism,” Arevalo said in the report. 

Anderson stressed the importance of doing research, saying, “Dapat lagi tayo magresearch bago [mag decide] on what to believe.”

(We should always research before we decide on what to believe.)

The actor also called on civilians, celebrities and news channels alike to be responsible of what they share on social media.

“We have to stay united as a country,” Anderson stated.  

Anderson recently became part of the Philippine Army Reserve Force after completing the Soldiers Skills Orientation Training. The course took place in Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan on Aug. 9.

He underwent the training with fellow actors Elmo Magalona, Nash Aguas and Jerome Ponce as part of their preparation for their upcoming TV series. They were all conferred the rank of private. Ryan Arcadio/JB
