MANILA, Philippines — Actor and San Juan City congressional candidate Edu Manzano denied that his certificate of candidacy (COC) was canceled.

“Hindi totoo,” Manzano said Tuesday when a netizen on Instagram asked, “Totoo po bang na cancel yung pagka candidacy mo idol @realedumanzano?”

This was after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) second division revoked the actor’s COC over questions regarding his citizenship.

The division said in its resolution that Manzano had “committed false material representation on his citizenship.”

Manzano explained, “2nd division lang yan. May en banc pa. Ginawa na yan sa akin yan jn 1998. Nanalo ako sa SC [Supreme Court] and went on to become vice mayor of Makati.”

“Pinayagan ako ng Korte Suprema tumakbo. Nasa Mercado vs Manzano 1998,” he added.

The Comelec second division’s ruling is subject to appeal before the commission en banc and the Supreme Court.

In 1998, Manzano was also questioned of his citizenship in a petition, but the Supreme Court allowed the actor to run against Ernesto Mercado for Makati vice mayor.
