Christian Bautista on making each decision with new wife: It’s no longer just about me

For Christian Bautista, married life has so far been nothing but “bliss.”
“There’s just a lot of joy and love,” Christian, who tied the knot with Kat Ramnani in Bali, Indonesia last November, told the Inquirer at a recent press conference. “It feels great to go home to someone who supports and loves you; someone you want to support and love, too.”
Christian’s schedule is almost always packed—concerts, corporate engagements, taping for television shows. He had no problem juggling all these when he was single.
This time, he may have to set some limitations.

“It would be unfair to my wife if I just say, ‘Sorry, but this is how my life is, and you have to accept it,’” the GMA 7 talent pointed out. “More than husband and wife, we’re partners… What’s beneficial to me should be beneficial to her, as well. That’s how I was taught and raised.”
“Anyway, she tags along and watches my shows when she can,” he added.
The moment the 37-year-old singer-actor made his vow was the moment his life ceased being only about himself.
“I believe that each decision has to be made with my wife—it’s no longer just about me anymore,” he said. “So, whatever roles or projects, whatever comes in our lives, we will talk it through. That’s a big part of marriage.”
Baby in 2 years?
The couple, who also threw a swanky postwedding party in Manila last December, may try for a baby “in two years.”
“For now, we will focus on ourselves, and enjoy our time together. I want to reenforce our bond, and make sure that our life is stable before having a child,” he said.
Christian is starting his year with a local concert tour, “The Sweetheart and the Balladeer: Fun Night Only,” which he will coheadline with Julie Anne San Jose.
The first show is set on Jan. 27 at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City; the next one on Feb. 10 at The Atrium, Limketkai Center, in Cagayan de Oro City (call 4702222).
He will also share the spotlight with newbie singers, Golden Cañedo and Josh Adornado—both products of the singing competion “The Clash,” where Christian served as one of the judges.
“There will be good and bad days. And during the bad, they must find a way to come up with something special from within… Find that drive,” related Christian, when asked to give advice to Josh, a grand finalist, and Golden, the champion. “Surround yourself with people who will work with you and believe in you.”
Next level
“They have to work hard and hone their craft,” he added. “It’s a matter of bringing these guys to the next level; showing the world just how talented they are.”
Competition and comparisons in show biz are inevitable. But one must channel such things, Christian stressed, into something productive and constructive.
“When you see other guys singing their hearts out, you feel challenged, and it makes you want to give your best—not in an effort to beat them, but to turn in a good performance,” he said.
“You all grow and improve together,” Christian said. “But at the end of the day, it’s yourself you should be constantly challenging.”
