Ogie Diaz supports Gretchen Fullido; reveals Cheryl Favila, Maria Ressa fired him from ‘Umagang Kay Ganda’

In the latest installment of his online Q&A “Mama Ogs Answers”, comedian Ogie Diaz asserted he is supporting television news anchor and entertainment reporter Gretchen Fullido. He also revealed that ABS-CBN news executive Cheryl Favila, one of the two personalities Fullido filed a sexual harassment complaint against, and Rappler CEO Maria Ressa fired him from the morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda”.
“I am for Gretchen,” the outspoken Diaz said, opening a Pandora’s box once more in the Facebook-based Q&A yesterday, Oct. 10. “At naniniwala ako sa kanya. So, ipaglaban mo ang iyong karapatan, Gretchen! (And I believe in her. So fight for your rights, Gretchen!)”
Fullido filed a sexual harassment complaint against Favila and news segment producer Maricar Asprec on Friday, Oct. 5 before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. She also filed libel charges against ABS-CBN news executives Ces Drilon and Venancio Borromeo, and reporter Marie Lozano.

Diaz then revealed that he did not leave “Umagang Kay Ganda” on his own volition. Rather, Favila, together with Ressa, fired him from the morning show.
“Hindi ako umalis,” he wrote. “Tinanggal ako nu’ng Oct. 2010 ni Maria Ressa (head ng news and current affairs that time) at nu’ng EP noon na si Cheryl Favila (na idinemanda ni Gretchen Fullido), dahil ang rason nila, tumatanggap daw ako ng PR envelopes sa mga pinupuntahan kong showbiz press cons.“
(I did not leave [the show]. I was fired on October 2010 by Ressa ([who was the] head of news and current affairs that time) and the show’s then-executive producer Favila (who Fullido filed a complaint against) because according to them, I supposedly receive public relations envelopes in the showbiz press cons I went to.)
Just like in the previous installments of the Q&A, he made it a point to entertain political questions, particularly ones concerning the 2019 senatorial elections.
He was asked what he thinks of former Presidential Communications Operations Office assistant secretary (PCOO-Asec) Mocha Uson running in the upcoming Senatorial elections, “to give voice to the voiceless,” as per her statement. He replied, “Nako eh yun ngang mga kababayan nating deaf, hindi niya nabigyan ng boses (But she failed to give voice to deaf Filipinos).”
“Mama Ogs, si Atty. Larry Gadon ba, iboboto mo? (Mama Ogs, are you going to vote for Atty. Larry Gadon?)” one question read. “Depende (Depends),” Diaz answered. “Pag puro katalinuhan na ang mga lumalabas sa bibig niya, hindi puro kabobohan (If the only words that will come out of his mouth are intelligent and not stupid).”
He divulged that he is praying broadcaster Jay Sonza will be the one to replace Harry Roque as Presidential Spokesperson. When he was asked if he is in favor of Roque’s resignation, he replied: “Oo. Para ma-regain niya yung nawalang credibility kung kaya pa. Lalo na at tatakbo siyang Senador ngayon. (Yes. So that he can regain the credibility he lost if he still can. Especially now that he will run for the Senate.)”
“Eh di ‘wag pauto. Maging matalino sa pagpili ng iboboto,” Diaz stated, giving a piece of advice to the voters of the upcoming elections. “Wag pasilaw sa matatamis na salita. Wag ipagbili ang boto sa maliit na halaga. Dapat yung isang boto mo, isang milyong piso ang halaga, hindi isandaang piso lang. #sarcastic.”
