Movie Trailer Review: ‘WalWal’
They say that millennials are the hardest demographic to reach and understand. In ‘WalWal’ by Regal Entertainment, Inc. and Star Cinema, this perception is put to a test for everyone to make his own judgment if, indeed, this perception holds water.
To be clear, immediately upon watching the official full-length trailer of ‘WalWal’ I can tell that this is not going to be your typical coming-of-age movie. The four lead male actors here are all young adults already in real life and the characters they portray in this movie are no different. I will be brutally frank here, “coming-of-age movies” have lost its appeal in this day and age. That is why a movie such as ‘WalWal’ is something that was bound to happen.
On another note, for some reason, anytime four or five young guys are thrown together in a movie, that evokes memories in me of the group “Guwapings”. It is perhaps that I remember this infamous or popular barkada – depending on who you ask – watching one of my favorite sitcoms on local television here in the Philippines when I was still a kid and I would see them there.
How does this connect to ‘WalWal’, you ask? Well, I got that nostalgic feeling with these four young actors because I can sense somewhat that 90’s retro vibe with Elmo Magalona, Kiko Estrada, Jerome Ponce, and Donny Pangilinan collectively, as a group. For the older generation now, this could be a good reason for them to watch ‘WalWal’ when it comes out.
Yup, I can relate to these guys because I was once, not too long ago, the same age as they are now. I think everyone, when he, too, was in his early 20’s went through that phase and the years of trying to find his place under the sun, figuring out what role he must play in society, searching for meaning in his life.

Will they continue in their mischievous and reckless ways? Or will they finally see that it is time to grow up and head in the right direction already?
