Derek Ramsay can well afford to sit on his laurels. And since he comes from an affluent family, the seasoned actor does not exactly need to be in show biz to survive. But, Derek is the type who steps out of his comfort zone lest it turns into a danger zone of stagnation.

He pushes boundaries in his latest project, Brillante Ma Mendoza’s “Amo,” the first Philippine TV series to be featured on Netflix. It’s about our government’s crackdown on narcotics, corruption and the evil that drugs can do. So very now.

Here’s my chat with Derek:

FEATURED STORIES

What made you accept the offer to do the series? First, to be able to work with the amazing director, Brillante Ma Mendoza. I also wanted to do something different. I play the role of a corrupt policeman, and I felt it would be fun and challenging to play that character.

What are the new things you learned from Direk Brillante? I learned how to be more creative with bringing my character to life. You don’t really have a script, so you need to ad lib on the spot.

What’s your advice to men who are not as drop-dead gorgeous as you on how to charm women? Be confident, radiate positive vibes and treat women right. Looks fade, character stays.

Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion

A very reliable source told me the real reason why the much-awaited Sharon Cuneta-Gabby Concepcion reunion movie was shelved. But I’m not at liberty to divulge the story behind it. I have read articles about the issue, but no report has zeroed in on the root cause. Suffice it to say that money can’t really buy everything.

After Sha and Gab thrilled fans with a giddy TV commercial, the cancellation of their film is an anticlimactic development. The Sha-Gab ad raised false hopes. I wonder if the ex-couple’s tiff will prove detrimental to the sales of the fast-food joint they endorse. The burger chain might as well change its tagline to, “’Di ko na love ’to.”
