Christina Aguilera recalls backlash vs her risqué image
In a recent interview with Paper magazine, singer Christina Aguilera, who’s rumored to be finally releasing a new album soon, looked back on the backlash she had to face after she went for a more risqué image during her “Dirrty” era.
She noted that the world has become more “progressive” in its attitude toward young artists expressing sexuality.
“They (rising stars) don’t get as much backlash when they come out on the scene. I did. It was a very interesting and controversial time for me,” she said.
“Either women are not sexual enough or we’re not fulfilling enough of a fantasy for you,” the singer added. “But then, if we’re overtly sexual or feeling empowered in a certain way, then we’re shamed for it.”
While it was a tricky time in her career, she’s glad, nonetheless, that what she went through in the past somehow helped pave the way for the next generation of female singers.
