She has given this generation some of its most compelling films, but director Joyce Bernal just does not see the time she will ever quit. She sees herself working in the industry until she is old.

At this time of year, the holidays are not a reason for her to slow down. She is busy promoting her entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, the comedy riot movie, “Gandarrapido:The Revenger Squad,” top-billed by Vice Ganda, Daniel Padilla and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

Select members of the entertainment press were able to get up-close and personal with the director at the recently concluded digital conference for the movie. She shared her thoughts on retiring.

“Idol ko si Susan Roces at Eddie Garcia. Gusto ko talaga kahit matanda na ko, nagta-trabaho pa rin ako, nag-iisip pa rin ako. Anything sa pelikula o kung saan man, ayoko mag-retire,” she said.

In fact, as she grows older, she all the more thinks of what she can do more and contribute in the filmmaking industry rather than slow down.

“Iniisip ko na, I’m turning 50 next year, I’m 49 now. Mga 25 to 30 years ‘yung ano ko sa mundo, ano pang pwede kong gawin kaya? I’m so excited about kung saan ako pupunta, naghahanap ako ng ibang platform, nag-iisip ng second career, pero still in filmmaking pa rin,” she said.

“Gusto ko maging masaya ang next 20 years of my life and still gutom pa rin for materials for things na gagawin,” she added.

Unlike those who think of leaving the industry due to overwhelming physical and emotional strains, she has one advise on what to do when exhaustion hits.

“Matulog ka lang ‘pag pagod ka. ‘wag ka makipag-usap kasi magagalit ka,” she said.

Among her notable movies are “Everything About Her,” “The Super Parental Guardians,” ‘Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo,” “10,000 Hours,” “Segunda Mano,” “Don’t Give Up On Us,” “Of All The Things” and “Till There Was You,” to name a few.
