Perhaps one reason why depressed people shy away from professional help is the fear of being ridiculed. She explained “seeing a Psychiatrist isnt a sign of weakness,it doesn’t mean your going crazy.everyone pls lets all save our loved ones & break the stigma.”

Recently “Eat Bulaga” main host Joey de Leon drew flak after dismissing depression as “gawa-gawa lang (made up by the person suffering from it).” He has apologized and subsequently suspended himself from the show. He has not stated when he will report back in the long-running noontime show.

Some people suffering from depression become suicidal. In one case, 16-year-old Isaiah Lustre, brother of teen actress Nadine Lustre, was found lifeless in their home with a gunshot wound in the head. His death, believed to be a suicide case, is said to have resulted from depression. /ra
