Lovi Poe

As someone who’s rumored to be living in with her boyfriend, Lovi Poe admires the manner in which fellow actress Nadine Lustre handled herself when confronted with the same issue last month.

“She didn’t exactly admit anything, but the fact that she spoke her mind and was brave enough to do so made me admire her,” she said of Nadine, who had declared that  living with one’s partner under one roof isn’t new anymore.

“You know what, I have met her at an event and I found her to be very real,” the 28-year-old Kapuso star said.

“And just because we’re public figures doesn’t mean that our personal lives should be an open book all the time,” Lovi told reporters at a recent press conference for her coming movie, “Woke Up Like This.”

Lovi, who’s dating Filipino-French businessman Chris Johnson,  stressed that things “have only just begun” for them, and thus moving in together is currently out of the question.

“I don’t want to talk about it much—I want to keep things private. It’s my decision. But he’s OK, either way [whether I talk about it or not]. He’s super chill and just lets me be,” she said, adding jestingly that the only thing she wakes up to in the morning is her dog Señorito.

“But of course, it would be nice to [wake up right] next to someone that you love … if everyone’s blessed to have such moments,” she added.

Besides, Lovi said that she’s a “very independent” person who values her alone time. “I need my space. We respect each other’s opinions and are OK like this,” she said. “We’re just enjoying what we have. I’m not one to plan far ahead; three months are already too much.”

In Regal Entertainment’s body-swap comedy flick “Woke Up,” Lovi plays Sabrina, a model who, one morning, finds herself in the body of the cocky basketball player Nando (Vhong Navarro). Lovi, a   first-timer in comedy, admitted that she was out of her comfort zone.

“I’m used to doing dramatic scenes … I’m used to crying. But eventually I loosened up and

really enjoyed my experience here,” said Lovi, who had a tough time showing her attraction to another female character, played by Cora Waddell.

“Aside from acting like a man, which is hard enough, acting like I was into a girl was awkward. I’m new to this. Merely looking at each other’s eyes was hard for me. But of course, we  worked on making the scene realistic. We wanted to make it right,” Lovi said.

And luckily, she added, Vhong was there to give tips.

“We check on each other to make sure we’re not being exaggerated in our portrayals of the opposite sex. We were really collaborative,” Lovi said.
