“Ready Player One” is an adaptation of a science fiction book of the same title written by Ernest Cline. The movie will be directed by Steven Spielberg.

The story is set in 2045 and focuses on Wade Watts, who lives in a futuristic society gripped by a digital treasure hunt inside a virtual reality universe called the OASIS. The first one to find the digital easter egg left behind by OASIS’ creator would inherit his vast fortunes.

Various icons from pop culture are expected to appear in the movie such as “The Iron Giant,” the Delorean time machine from “Back to the Future,” Freddy Krugger from “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” Duke Nukem from the game franchise of the same name, and the Akira Bike from the anime movie “Akira,” among others.

“Ready Player One” is scheduled for release on March 30, 2018. It stars Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Wade and Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) as Art3mis. /ra
