At the height of the Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen (PPAP) song craze last year, fictional singer/songwriter Pikotaro (played by Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka) became a cultural phenomenon.

Although the song and the artist’s popularity has toned down in recent months, the comedian’s mustachioed alter ego continues to be a hit among the masses, even as he is set to appear in his own TV anime in Japan.

According to gaming site Kotaku, the animated series “Pikotaro no Rarabai Raarabai (Pikotaro’s Lullaby Luuullaby)” will feature the adventures of the viral singer, who will voice himself and all the other characters in the show.

Not much was revealed regarding the show’s plot, but Japanese site Mantan Web noted that it will revolve around Pikotaro’s fairy tale dreams.

Due to its popularity worldwide, the “PPAP” has been hailed as the new “Gangham style,” with the original video reckoning over 100 million views on YouTube.  Khristian Ibarrola /ra
