‘Kimi no Na wa’ confirmed for Dec. 14 local premiere
The rumors have finally received confirmation as to the local screening of “Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)” with an update from SM Cinema.
The update showed the animated film on the “coming soon” list with a scheduled Dec. 14 premiere.
Film distributor Pioneer Films had announced that the screening of Makoto Shinkai’s hit film would be some time in November. Later it said the film’s screening was pending due to the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival and the prioritizing of Hollywood movies like “Star Wars: Rogue One.”
“Kimi no Na wa” was at the top of Japanese box-office chart for nine straight weeks, then stepped down to second. It then climbed back up again for three more weeks before the release of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The film has since settled in second place. Shinkai’s work has also been placed on the consideration list for an Oscar.
