Lady Gaga has confessed her deepest personal struggle yet.

The “Perfect Illusion” songstress said in a Tuesday episode of “Today” that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Earlier in 2014, she revealed she was raped at the tender age of 19.

“I suffer from a mental illness – I suffer from PTSD. I’ve never told anyone that before, so here we are,” the singer revealed. “But the kindness that’s been shown to me by doctors, as well as my family and my friends, it’s really saved my life.”

In order to escape from her hideous experience, Gaga, 30, sought support from the people close to her. “I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is the best way,” she said.

Through her Born This Way foundation, an initiative co-founded with her mom Cynthia Germanotta, and with the help of Today and NBC Universal, the singer sprinkled happiness to displaced lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) teens at Ali Forney Center in New York. While promoting her #ShareKindness campaign, she interacted with the youth and encouraged them to open up about their personal battles.

“These children are not just homeless or in need. Many of them are trauma survivors. They’ve been rejected in some type of way,” said Gaga. “We are equal. We both walk our two feet on the same earth. And we’re in this together.”  Gianna Francesca Catolico
