After 17 years, Charo Santos returns to the big screen in Lav Diaz’ “Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left),” which bagged the Golden Lion award in the 73rd Venice Film Festival.

When asked why she accepted the four-hour movie, Charo  said, “I embrace everything about cinema. I agreed to do the project because I wanted to understand Lav’s films, and experience how it feels to work with him.”

“Humayo” is about a woman seeking revenge and vindication. Inspired by Leo Tolstoy’s short story, “God Sees the Truth But Waits,” it is about Horacia (Santos), a former schoolteacher who is released from prison after spending three decades in a correctional institution for a crime she didn’t commit.
