More than a decade after she played the iconic female heroine Darna, Kapamilya (ABS-CBN) actress Angel Locsin has been chosen to reprise the role.

After much deliberation as to who will act as the remarkable Pinay hero in the big screen and after considering different actresses, all fit in their own way to play Darna, Star Cinema head Malou Santos ended all speculations. She announced that the role belonged to Angel Locsin, one of the most remarkable actresses who ever played Mars Ravelo’s protagonist.

Among the names considered to be the new Darna was Jessy Mendiola, who was named the sexiest woman this year by men’s magazine FHM. She had been linked to Locsin’s ex-boyfriend Luis Manzano and accused of being the reason for the breakup.

Darna is an iconic Filipina fictional hero created by the famous Filipino graphic novelist that was thrust into Filipino consciousness upon its release in comic book in the early 1950s. She is famous for her incredible strength, speed and invulnerability.
