Some stars tend to take their hard-won popularity for granted, so we keep reminding our fave luminaries that they’re only as good and bankable as their last performance. Meaning, even the most popular lead players in the biz have to keep “surprising” viewers with new projects that showcase their abilities in ever-evolving ways.

Judging from the new starrers that some popular luminaries have been coming up with this season, it looks like that key lesson is being learned—and implemented.

Among the pacesetters in this proactive regard is the JaDine love team, which is flying high this season with a “swoonworthy” teleserye, “Till I Met You.”

For their part, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo have a “significant” feature film, “Barcelona: A Love Untold,” megged by Olivia Lamasan.

JaDine’s drama series is significant because it delves into LGBT issues. This is a departure for ABS-CBN shows, which usually tend to play it safe and “family-oriented,” while GMA 7 is the TV network known for “edgier” dramas. Well, change has indeed come, and it’s decidedly welcome. —Anything to keep viewers “surprised!”

As for “Barcelona,” the fact that Lamasan is directing the KathNiel love team is a clear signal that the tandem is slowly but surely being eased out of their limiting “tweendom” and will be pushed hard to come up with more young-adult portrayals.

Other stars and love teams are following suit with their own “more eventful” new starrer, so the word’s out to all of the lazy laggards out there: This year, if you want to at least keep up with the stellar competition, strike while the iron is hot!
