KC’s online shop to benefit Mindanao school children
ACTRESS KC Concepcion celebrated her 31st birthday by launching a shopping website to generate funds to help provide hot and nutritious meals to school children in Mindanao.
As an ambassador of the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP), the actress is involved in helping some 60,000 school children in war-torn areas in the south. “The WFP provides hot and nutritious meals to kids every day to encourage them to attend school in areas like Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Maguindanao. It’s a way of using food as an incentive. I’ve been championing this cause for seven years now,” she explained.
KC recalled that in a trip to New York City, she met a group of Olympic medalists, who had been fed by the WFP while growing up. “It was then that I realized that it (the feeding program) really works! Their lives changed to the point that they became Olympians. ”
She said this year would be all about her passion projects. “I’ve always had a soft spot for school children. It doesn’t take much—by purchasing one gown, you can already feed thousands of kids for a certain period of time,” the actress said during a media gathering she organized on April 6, the eve of her birthday.
“I’ve been involved with KC’s Closet for eight years now, but it’s the first time I’ve come up with a dotcom,” she explained. A dotcom is a company that does most of its business on the internet, usually through a website that uses the domain “com,” which was derived from the word “commercial.”

She was a lover of fashion. She handed down to us her branded vintage bags and we didn’t know where to put them. I then looked at my own wardrobe and realized how much stuff I also have. I considered doing a garage sale, but who would bring much cash to a sale like that? Going online was the best solution. It has since grown into something fun and exciting.”
KC said photos of items being sold have been uploaded on her website since the midnight of her birthday. “Luxury goods are a bit pricey. But if you buy them from the site, they are not only less expensive because I’ve already used them once or twice, they are also special because I’ve used them in important events. They all have sentimental value.”
The sale happens throughout the year. “This is not a one-time, big-time thing,” she pointed out. “Unlike other online shops, there is only one size per item because it’s from my closet to yours. The sizes are from small to medium, depending on my body type at the time I used them.” Soon, she would be inviting other celebrities who would want to sell their luxury goods.
She is set to sign a two-year contract with the Kapamilya network this month. “Once that is done, I’ll go back to hosting and drama.” Her first would be the 2016 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, which she will cohost with Xian Lim, on April 17.
