Carla Abellana: Tom Rodriguez is husband material
If you don’t want to be part of the “Lonely Hearts Club” anymore, Regal Entertainment’s rom-com opening on Wednesday, “No Boyfriend Since Birth (NBSB),” could be an antidote to that. Women in search of their “happy-ever-after” can learn a thing or two from Carla Abellana’s character (Karina) in the movie. She has never been in a relationship and still pines for her high school crush, Carlo, played by Tom Rodriguez. Since they are sweethearts in real life, their giddy moments and mushy lines on-screen become more potent. That’s what happens when reel and real love collide!
What do you advise girls who have not had boyfriends?
That’s hard… Well, if it’s by choice, don’t wait too long. It will just come. But then, don’t be too choosy.
What stage is your relationship with Tom in?
We are still dating. We are much closer. We are on a deeper level of understanding and we are trying out new activities and adventures with our friends.

Article continues after this advertisementScene: The character that I portray, Karina, gets giddy when her high school crush, Carlo, tells her that she hasn’t changed after all these years. And because of that, I stumbled.
Line: All the ad libs of Ricci Chan. I can’t pinpoint one line because I love all of Ricci’s impromptu quips. He’s a master of ad libs.
Is Tom husband material?
Of course. He is a family man. He cares about his parents, loves children and has excessive energy for children. He will do everything to provide for his family.
What’s the silliest thing that you have done?
Steal the uniform of my niece’s yaya to wear at a costume party.
Do you ever lose your poise?
Yes. When I spill food all over myself when I’m eating with my family.
‘AlDub’ phenomenon
Could it be true that some of the endorsements of Kim Chiu will go to Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza and some of Xian Lim’s will be given to Alden Richards?
Kim and Xian need not fret because they have several advertisements to their names, anyway.
The “AlDub” phenomenon defies explanation. Some quarters are wondering if it would just be a passing fancy, while most people agree that the accidental love team has staying power. Their tandem just has to keep evolving.
Kilig (giddiness) à la AlDub is something Pinoys cannot have enough of. Even their signature pabebe (cutesy) wave was featured on BBC News.
That wave has taken giant steps and is making waves all over the globe.
