Mila Del Sol, one of the queens of the golden age of Philippine cinema, was honored for her contributions to the industry by the House of Representatives recently. As an actress from the 1930s, she acts as a link between show biz’s pre- and postwar eras.

Her memorable five-decade career began in 1939. She appeared in more than 50 films, including the first postwar Filipino film, “Orasang Ginto” (1946), and the first local movie filmed partially in color, “Ibong Adarna.”

Outside the film biz, Mila is credited for having pioneered the maintenance service industry in the country. The lawmakers’ resolution was presented to the actress by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte.

Del Sol’s family was with her when she received it, including her eldest son, Sonny Tambunting, his wife, Terry, and grandson Gus.
