Fires set at home where Robin William’s ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ was filmed

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco home where the Robin Williams movie “Mrs. Doubtfire” was filmed suffered minimal damage after two small fires were set outside, authorities said Tuesday.

The blazes were ignited around 8 p.m. Monday at the residence in the wealthy Pacific Heights neighborhood where the 1993 movie took place, San Francisco police said.

The fires caused minor damage to the front door, where a doormat was set ablaze, and the side of a garage, where another small fire was ignited. Photos showed black char marks on the bottom of the garage door and front door.

No arrests had been made Tuesday.

The home drew notes and flowers from hundreds of people after Williams, star of “Mrs. Doubtfire,” killed himself on Aug. 1.

Dr. Douglas K. Ousterhout, the 79-year-old plastic surgeon who owns the home, told police he smelled gasoline outside his front door while he was cooking and managed to douse the flames before calling authorities.

Police said they are investigating whether a disgruntled former patient of Ousterhout’s is involved. Police didn’t name the person but described her as a woman in her 40s.

The surgeon, who specializes in “facial feminization” for transgender women, didn’t return calls to his home or office.
