Her name is Celestine

/ 12:07 AM October 08, 2014

It takes one awesome performer to know one. That’s why Pops Fernandez pulled out all the stops to produce Toni Gonzaga’s anniversary concert, “Celestine,” held last Friday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Pops told me that a “Celestine Concert Tour” was in the works.

“Since it’s her 15th year in the biz, it’s the perfect time for Toni to shine on the concert stage,” Pops said.

Toni’s boyfriend, filmmaker Paul Soriano, played a supporting role during the concert.

TONI says she can never give up singing.

Direk Paul told me: “To be able to witness Tin’s dreams come true is truly a blessing. She really owned the stage that night. What a performance! After 15 years, she still continues   to surprise her fans.”

I teased Paul and asked if they would be the next show biz couple to get engaged. He said, “It will happen sooner than later.”

She is my fairy godmother. She looks after me. She’s my mentor.

If you had to choose between acting, singing and hosting, which would you keep?

I’m blessed to be given the opportunity to do all these at the same time. But I can never give up singing. It’s my first love!

It’s the season of show biz marriage proposals. What’s your dream proposal?

I’m not expecting anything grand. What’s important is the sincerity of my dream man.

Do you and Alex have sibling rivalry?

Competition is not allowed in our home. We are too close to let work come between us. We support each other all the time.

How would you describe your relationship with Paul?

Very secure and stable.

What don’t people know about you?

Toni is just my screen name. Those who are close to me know me as Celestine (or Tin).

What’s your song for yourself these days?

“Soon” by Brooke Fraser.

What was the worst intrigue about you and how did you handle it?

The blind items about me are all fabricated. It’s surprising how people can come up with these stories. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them. You cannot be affected by lies if you hold on to the truth.

What’s the best part of your life?

I get to live my dream.

What’s the hardest part of your life?

People judge me without knowing me.

How do you want to be remembered?

That I lived my purpose and shared with others the talents God gave me.
