‘Yabang Pinoy’
Maricris Sarino-Joson has a background in marketing management, with degrees from De La Salle University, University of California Berkeley and SDA Bocconi University in Italy.
Maricris has realized that the common denominator among first world countries are the “brands” they create. She believes that, for the Philippines to truly prosper, “we need to inspire, encourage and support Filipino products, turn people’s ideas into reality and help them go global.”
For this to happen, it’s essential for Pinoys to take pride in our nationality. In this regard, Yabang Pinoy, which Joson organized, accomplishes just that. Its homebrands include Agos Pilipinas, DTS, Kenutral Collection, Fondo Manila, Kape ni Juan and Linya Linya.
According to Maricris, their most successful brands are Team Manila, Cole Vintage, Sapato Manila, Soak Swimwear, Fab Manila, Sewn, Storage Solutions, Yadu, Island Girl and Suelas. Yabang Pinoy marks its 10th anniversary this year.
On Aug. 22-24, 250 entrepreneurs and artists will converge at the World Trade Center for the 10th Global Pinoy Bazaar, with food merchants that include Malagos Chocolate, Kettle Food, Nipa, Sitsirya, Villa Socorro and Theo & Philo.
