3 Filipino films to be shown at the Third World Film Festival in San Jose
SAN JOSE, California–Three Filipino films will be presented at the Third World Indie Film Festival (TWIFF) on September 20-22 at the Century Theaters in Fremont–“Alagwa (Breakaway),” “Johnny Loves Dolores” and “Marilou Diaz-Abaya: Filmmaker on a Voyage.”
Award-winning “Alagwa (Breakaway)” uncovers the dark facets of the underground business of human trafficking in the Philippines. Directed by Ian Lorenos and starring Jericho Rosales and Bugoy Carino, “Alagwa (Breakaway)” received the TWIFF Best Narrative Feature award.
“Johnny Loves Dolores” is the story of two Filipino immigrants in New York City that form an unconventional relationship. It is directed by Clarissa delos Reyes and stars Princess Punzalan and Paul Arellano. There is a Q&A Session with Punzalan after the first TWIFF screening of “Johnny Loves Dolores.”
Directed by Mona Lisa Yuchengo, “Marilou Diaz-Abaya: Filmmaker on a Voyage” paints a fascinating portrait of the first lady of Philippine cinema. Diaz-Abaya was one of the most successful and inspiring directors, producers, and teachers from the Philippines. Yuchengo showcased Diaz-Abaya’s life and career in “Marilou Diaz-Abaya: Filmmaker on a Voyage.”
All three Filipino Films are showing at the Century Theaters in Fremont, CA. Audiences can purchase a TWIFF Day Pass for $20. Below are the showtimes for the three Filipino films.
