Many people want to become millionaires, and some of them fast-track the process by marrying somebody rich. So, it’s no surprise that the “ultimate” dating show on TV, “The Millionaire Matchmaker,” is already on its fourth season—and counting!

The show is hosted by, Patti Stanger,  a no-nonsense dame who is reputed to be one of the most successful and effective matchmakers in New York City. The fact that she specializes in helping millionaires  find their true loves (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) is no mean tribute to her unique skills!

So, how does she do it?

FEATURED STORIES

First, by not  being impressed with her clients’ money! She knows darn well that it’s the main reason why the people she recruits are attracted to her clients, but she also realizes from long and time-tested experience that, once the couples get hitched, it’s the first attraction to fly out of the window!

So, she’s after other, deeper “glue” to keep her couples together for the long term—and that is by no means easy to figure out on a case-to-case basis.

Millionaires are used to getting or, more properly, buying what they want, so they have to understand that, when it comes to true love, their usual easy ploys don’t work.

Therefore, they have to figure out other ways to get people to want to become a part of their lives—with a lot of help, nagging, and even “tough love” inputs from the program host.

This includes making her clients see themselves as others perceive them, warts and all. It isn’t easy for rich people to take criticism, because they tend to surround themselves with “yes” people. But, the show’s resident matchmaker is paid by her wealthy clients for “daring” to tell the truth, so she gets away with “murder.”

Last Tuesday on the ETC channel, for instance, client Christof, who wanted to find a gay partner, was criticized by the matchmaker for being shallow and self-centered, and for setting excessively high standards for his ideal love.

She pointed out that he himself was definitely not goodlooking—so, why should he require good looks from others?! Ouch.

Her other client last week was a handsome guy who liked sexy women but didn’t have enough time for them, because he had this ongoing “bromance” with his male friends. As a result, after he had chosen his date from the many “candidates” the matchmaker presented to him, she was turned off by their rough and loud behavior, and refused to go out with him again!

It’s instructive to note that, despite all the money involved in the “transactions” (had they resulted in a permanent relationship), both clients didn’t make a go of their initial dates, to the matchmaker’s extreme disappointment and irritation!

It just goes to show that money really isn’t everything when it comes to love and marriage!
