‘Qiyamah,’ Nora Aunor top critics’ honor roll

MANILA, Philippines—The Young Critics Circle on Saturday has announced its list of winners for film year 2012.

Gutierrez Mangansakan II’s “poetic, apocalyptic” drama “Qiyamah” emerged as best film of 2012.

Nora Aunor won as best performer for her role as a barren Badjao midwife in Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s “Thy Womb.”

Other winners are: best screenplay, Arnel Mardoquio’s “Ang Paglalakbay ng mga Bituin sa Gabing Madilim”; editing, Arnel Barbarona and Gutierrez Mangansakan II, “Qiyamah”; cinematography and visual design, “Kalayaan,” Albert Banzon (cinematography) and Adolfo Alix Jr. (production design); sound and aural orchestration, Teresa Barrozo (music) and Ditoy Aguila (sound design) for “Kalayaan” and Raphael Pulgar (music) and Arnel Barbarona (sound design) for “Qiyamah.”

Awarding ceremony is set in July at the University of the Philippines in Diliman.
