MANILA, Philippines—The lawyer of cager James Yap made a public appeal on Thursday to give her client and his ex-wife, Kris Aquino, the time and space to talk their differences.
“I am making an appeal for the ‘family’ to be left alone,” lawyer Lorna Kapunan told TV anchor Jessica Soho on Thursday night after Kris and her sisters Ballsy, Pinky and Viel gave an interview.
Kapunan said she’s just echoing the appeal of the Aquino family. Kris made an earlier statement asking the media and the public not to feast on their personal problems, though she made this request on national TV.
“I hope she sees it in her heart to talk to James,” said Kapunan.
Kapunan was being objective on national television when she said she’s hoping that the court and both parties should come to an agreement.
She pointed out this is not about which TV station is favouring who, or about she and lawyer Frank Chavez battling in court. Chavez is Aquino’s counsel.
“Let’s not make a mountain out of a molehill,” she said.
On the custody of Yap and Aquino’s one and only child, Bimby, she said no parent has a monopoly for the affection of a child. “You cannot deprive a child of the love of a parent.”
“In fighting for their son, they end up hurting him,” Kapunan said.
Aquino and Yap are in the middle of a legal battle involving an alleged sexual advance made by Yap in the presence of Bimby last December in the house of Aquino.
Aquino also accused Yap of threatening her and attempting to harm her while Bimby was with them in the same room, causing trauma to the child.
Earlier, Aquino also announced her resignation from show business to have a private, quiet life with Bimby.
