Stars share their plans for Valentine’s Day

We asked celebrities how they celebrate Valentine’s Day. Their replies:

Kitchie Nadal, rock singer and actress for “The Muses”: “I’m blessed to spend my first Valentine’s Day in nine years with a loved one. For the last two years, he wasn’t in town, and the years before I met him, I was single.”

Boots Anson-Roa, veteran actress: “Valentine’s Day should be celebrated by everybody. Singletons like me (I’ve been widowed for six years) can celebrate it alone, though it doesn’t have to be lonely—or you can spend it with friends and family. You can also celebrate it with God, who is the source of all love.”

Big deal

Joey Reyes, host of “Ang Latest”: “Let me put it down with the following points: I have stopped believing that Valentine is anything more than a capitalistic ploy to jack up the price of flowers, chocolates, special dinners, as well as the motel rooms in Sta. Mesa and Pasig.

“There was a time when it was such a big deal not to be caught flatfooted and alone when Feb. 14 came along, because it spoke so much of a person’s bargain-basement market value. But, now, I realize that the same date marks the birthday of Kris Aquino and Juan Ponce-Enrile!

“And, whoever said that I couldn’t have some fun spending Valentine without a date? A good film, a box of Nacho chips, and a bowl of salsa are better than a night of lovey-dovey and gooey eyes that cost thousands of pesos—and a morning-after realization that you’ve been victimized by strategic marketing!”

Jake Macapagal, lead actor of recent Sundance Award winner, “Metro Manila”: “Single or not, the occasion has become a designated day when you’re expected to be with your loved ones. Whether you’ve found ‘the one’ or have truly come to terms with being single, you have to celebrate love! Let’s make every day Valentine’s Day!”
