It was a rude awakening, a witness swears. Controversial Star was booed in a recent big event.
Showbiz Insider suspects the crowd didn’t approve of CS’s ungentlemanly behavior toward Pretty Starlet.
In the same occasion, Scandalous Personality received a not-so-warm welcome, too. The audience allegedly hissed and booed at the sight of him.
Such a rejection could be devastating for SP, who values fame and fortune above all else, said Biz Authority.
Scary sis
It’s pretty obvious that Beautiful Star is scared of Gorgeous Sister.
BS is feisty and fearless on her own, but it seems GS can be more frightening when irked.
Not a few witnesses swear that GS doesn’t only have a nasty temper, she also has a dark (read: menacing) side.
GS once remarked about an enemy, Stunning Starlet: “She’s better off as food for sharks.”
Afffraid.
No, thanks
While other studios are tripping all over themselves to sign up Veteran Actress, Entertainment Bigwig is a tad reluctant.
EB isn’t blinded by the hype and hoop-la. “What role can she possibly play
at her age?” he wonders.
Perhaps EB has also heard of VA’s tantrums that have caused legendary obstacles in the past. Take this anecdote from Showbiz Exec: “The production design team spent hours decorating the set with balloons. When VA arrived four hours after call time, she popped the balloons one by one with a lit cigarette.”
Mother, when pleased
Regal Films producer Lily Monteverde was so impressed with the Cinemalaya entry, “Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa,” that she sought out young filmmakers Alvin Yapan and Alemberg Ang.
Mother Lily told Yapan that she was thrilled by the onscreen chemistry of Rocco Nacino and Paolo Avelino. And then, she reportedly gave a P100,000 “donation” to the filmmakers. Yapan related, “She said that, like Alemberg, she had to borrow from friends when she was starting.”
She said she learned a lot watching the Cinemalaya films. She even picked up another entry, Erick Salud’s “Ligo na U, Lapit na Me,” for distribution.
“Ligo,” Regal’s first indie release, opens in cinemas Aug. 17. Meanwhile, Cinemalaya big winner “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank,” distributed by Star Cinema, opens in theaters Aug. 3.
Metamorphosis
TV Host is undergoing a major makeover right before televiewers’ eyes. Did TH endure cosmetic enhancements to enhance facial features that were once ordinary at best?
Her nose is no longer crooked like before. And gone are the distracting eyebags! Is this why she is friends with a celeb (GS in above item) who endorses a beauty clinic?
Sikyu’s got talent
He was on the set of “Pilipinas Got Talent” during one of the early auditions, but only as a security guard. For Season 3, Mark Galido stepped on the PGT stage to try out! Will he surprise the judges or is he better off as a sikyu? Find out tonight, 8:30, on ABS-CBN’s top reality talent search.
Ronstadt memoir
LOS ANGELES – Grammy Award-winning singer Linda Ronstadt will release a memoir in 2013 called “Heart Like a Wheel,” borrowing the title of one of her albums, her publisher said on Thursday.
The book, to be published by New York-based Simon & Schuster, will describe Ronstadt’s rise to fame and career.
She won 10 Grammy awards and proved herself in a variety of musical styles from rock to opera. She also dated California Governor Jerry Brown in the 1970s.
The Arizona-Born Ronstadt, 65, has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Her 1974 album, “Heart Like a Wheel,” is one of her most popular releases. Her hit songs include “Desperado” and “Blue Bayou.” Reuters
Latinas are top Latinos
LOS ANGELES – Christina Aguilera and Selena Gomez are the leading nominees for the ALMA Awards, which honor the artistic accomplishments of Latinos in music, television and film. The National Council of La Raza announced the nominations Thursday.
Aguilera and Gomez are each up for three awards for their work in music and on the big and small screens. Both are nominated in the female music artist category and for favorite movie actress in a comedy or musical – Aguilera for “Burlesque” and Gomez for “Monte Carlo.” Aguilera was also nominated for reality TV personality for her work on “The Voice.” Gomez is up for favorite TV actress in a comedy for “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which was nominated for favorite TV series alongside “CSI: Miami,” “Desperate Housewives” and “Modern Family.”
Jennifer Lopez and “Glee” star Naya Rivera are each double nominees. Both are up for female music artist. Lopez is also nominated in the reality TV category for “American Idol” and Rivera is nominated for favorite TV actress in a comedy for “Glee.”
The awards will be presented September 16 during an hour-long special on NBC hosted by George Lopez and Eva Longoria. AP
Belafonte urges black activism
LOS ANGELES – Harry Belafonte says Hollywood has yet to explore the breadth of black experience and that the industry will “never ever yield to the needs of people of color.”
The 84-year-old entertainer made the remarks at a presentation on artists and activism held Wednesday during the 102nd annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s (NAACP) Convention.
Actor Louis Gossett Jr., actress-singer Tatyana Ali, actor-author Hill Harper and members of the Black Stuntmen’s Association appeared alongside Belafonte at the panel discussion. He urged the NAACP to form a group of artists and thinkers to inspire the kind of “radical thought” necessary for change, and he called on black actors and filmmakers to “come together and create some institutional base that’s ours.”
“It seems to me that long ago we could have put together black studios, put together a black distribution center,” Belafonte said. “Maybe we couldn’t reach 100 million, but we could reach 100,000, and have 100,000 exposed to a great truth. I’d rather have that than 100 million exposed to something vacuous and inaccurate.”
