MCA music artists honored at 25th Awit Awards

MANILA, Philippines—MCA Music artists took home honors at the 25th Awit Awards held recently at the Glorietta Activity Center.  Asia’s acoustic sweetheart Sabrina was the recipient for the second year as I-Gateway Mobile Philippines Inc.’s “Most Downloaded Artist”.

Electropop artist Somedaydream also walked off with 2 digital awards: ABS-CBN Interactive’s “Most Downloaded Song” for “Hey Daydreamer” and “Most Downloaded Artist”.

Humanfolk, a world music project of Johnny Alegre (guitar, bamboo percussion, voice), Susie Ibarra (kulintang, drums, percussion, voices), her husband, Roberto Juan Rodriguez (drums, percussion), and Philippine musical artists Cynthia Alexander (guitar, vocals, bass, bamboo percussion, gongs), and Malek Lopez (keyboards, synthesizer and sound design) took home the Best World Music Recording for the song “Para Sa Tao”. The track is included in their self-titled album.

Pop jazz artist Tricia Garcia was awarded Best Jazz Recording for the single “Sa Iyo Lang” which is in her debut album “Kulay”.

The Awit Awards is a prestigious award-giving body, spearheaded by PARI (The Philippine Association of the Record Industry, Inc.), that gives recognition to Filipino performing artists and people behind the making of Filipino recorded music. (advt)
