‘Avengers: Doomsday’ first trailer reveals MCU’s biggest crossover yet

Fans were treated to the clearest look at the next major chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga after the first full-length official trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” was released.

The two-minute-and-25-second trailer, released on Monday, July 20, reveals new footage that expands on some mysteries previously teased in promotional clips.

The trailer highlights the complete return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, the first extended look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and the collision of heroes from different Marvel realities.

The trailer opens with Professor X’s iconic school for gifted youngsters, connecting “Doomsday” to the X-Men universe.

While Steve Rogers’ return had already been teased in earlier promotional material, the new trailer shows the character in a full scene for the first time.

Evans’ Steve Rogers is shown reuniting with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, including an emotional moment involving Mjölnir. It shows that Rogers remains worthy of wielding the legendary weapon.

The trailer also reveals a first extended look at Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom, one of Marvel’s most iconic villains.

Marvel previously confirmed that Downey would return to the MCU, but not as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. 

The new trailer shows Doom wearing his signature metal mask and armor while presenting himself as a threat. It also gives audiences the first glimpse of his voice.

The trailer also confirms that “Avengers: Doomsday” will be one of Marvel’s biggest crossover events, bringing together heroes from multiple corners of the franchise.

“The Fantastic Four” are prominently featured in the trailer: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm.

Characters connected to the former “Thunderbolts*” also appear, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

Returning MCU heroes include Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, and Letitia Wright as Shuri, among others.

“Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, and is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously helmed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
