GMA 7 explains why “Haram,” a new series starring Dingdong Dantes, has been shelved:
“‘Haram’ is about the love of a Christian soldier (Dantes) for a Muslim girl (Kylie Padilla).
“He learns that their love is haram (forbidden) but he wants to prove his honorable intentions by converting to Islam.
“It is the show’s intention to make viewers understand why the relationship between a Muslim girl and a man from outside Islam is forbidden. At the same time, it aims to present the dynamics of Muslim family life in contemporary times, and the dynamics of religious and cultural pluralism … to promote better understanding and mutual respect among people of various faith traditions.
“But because of the current tense atmosphere all over the world, and in solidarity [with] the entire Muslim community, GMA 7 has decided it is best to shelve ‘Haram’ for now.”
