Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy gave an update about his and his family’s situation after their Philippine Airlines flight (PR102) from Manila to Los Angeles made an emergency landing in Japan.

Jo Koy assured his Instagram followers on Thursday, April 10, that they are safe and sound following the emergency landing.

“We were on our way back to L.A. from the Philippines when the entire cabin filled with smoke (due to electrical fire) we then made an emergency landing into Tokyo Japan,” he wrote in the caption alongside a video of him eating with his family at a restaurant.

In the video, the comedian thanked the flight crew on board for handling the situation that he described “could have gone south” if it weren’t for their professionalism and calmness. 

Jo Koy also reminded his followers to always say I love you to their loved ones, writing, “PS. Tell everyone you love them everyday. Mahal kita [I love you].”

In the comments section, fans and celebrity friends Martin Nievera and KC Montero, among others, expressed their relief after Jo Koy’s update.

On Thursday, a PAL aircraft, carrying 355 passengers, made an emergency landing at Haneda Airport in Japan after an air-conditioning unit emitted smoke, the airline said in a statement.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon also called for a cabin investigation following the emergency landing, even as he assured that the passengers of the said flight had already deplaned.

Dizon extended his gratitude to the Embassy of Japan for assisting the passengers and for granting temporary passes to those without visas.

Jo Ko visited the Philippines and went to Bacolod for his foundation endeavors and made a guest appearance on “It’s Showtime,” where he participated in the program’s “Ansabe” segment.

While traveling on Manila’s streets, the comedian said he felt “anxious” going through the “crazy” bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Jo Koy is set to return to the country in June for the Manila leg of his “Just Being Koy” tour.
