For BINI, being on the receiving end of numerous awards and recognitions is proof of how God works wonders.

The P-pop powerhouse — consisting of Jhoanna, Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha and Sheena — was awarded Women of the Year by Billboard Philippines, recognizing their historic feats in the OPM scene.

The award was presented to them by last year’s Global Force awardee Sarah Geronimo during the “Women in Music: The Executive Edition” event at The Peninsula Manila in Makati last March 28. However, the group’s main dancer and youngest member Sheena was not present at the time.

“Last year, we were very honored to receive the Rising Star Award from Billboard Philippines, also. Back then, we were simply dreaming of bigger things, hoping to make a mark. And now, standing here as women of the year, grabe (wow). God [truly] works quietly,” the group’s leader, Jhoanna, said during their acceptance speech.

In her spiel, Geronimo described BINI as artists who “widened the possibilities” for Filipino artists to make an impact on the global stage. Following their widespread success, the female octet received multiple awards including the International Breakthrough Artist and International Video of the Year by Brazil’s BreakTudo Awards and Best Asia Act by MTV Europe Music Awards, to name a few.

“Sabi kanina ni Ms. Sarah G, kami ang inspirasyon ng bagong henerasyon pero alam niyo po [ba], kayo ang naging inspirasyon namin. Ever since trainees kami, [kapag tinatanong sino ang nagi-inspire sa’min, ang sagot namin ay si] Ms. Sarah G,” Jhoanna said of the singer-performer.

(A while ago, Ms. Sarah G said we’re an inspiration to the new generation. Did you know that you were our inspiration too? When we’re asked who inspired us when we were still trainees, our answer was Ms. Sarah G.)

While thanking their dedicated fans (or Blooms), management, their team, and their loved ones, Jhoanna hoped the award would be a reminder to fellow artists that courage and heart can lead to success.

“As women in music, we want to continue inspiring, growing, learning, [and] breaking barriers [to show] that Filipinos can shine on any stage,” she said. “Sana ‘tong award na ‘to, maging reminder na ang (I hope this award will be a reminder that) success is not just about talent. It’s about heart, hard work, and courage to keep going no matter what.”

The music publication previously awarded BINI with the Rising Star Award in 2024 and they also bagged Billboard Korea’s Voices of Asia plum along with SB19.

Also awarded at the event were female music executives Roslyn Pineda, Rhiza Pascua, Kathleen Dy-Go, Marivic Benedicto, Georgette Tengco (Music Distribution) and Audry Dionisio.

The girl group, who is set to continue their “BINIverse” world tour, is best known for their hit songs “Pantropiko,” “Salamin, Salamin,” “Na Na Na,” “Huwag Muna Tayong Umuwi” and “Lagi,” to name a few.
