The Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino-starrer “My Love Will Make You Disappear” is off to a great start as it earned P12 million on its first day of theatrical run, making it the highest opening-day gross for a local film so far this year.
Star Cinema announced the film’s milestone as it also confirmed that 224 block screenings have been scheduled worldwide.
Chiu and Avelino surprised fans by gracing several block screenings and to personally thank them for their support on the movie’s opening day on Wednesday, March 26.
On Friday, the pair was spotted at the airport en route to Los Angeles to attend some special screenings of their film.
After its Philippine debut on Wednesday, the film premiered in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei the following day.
The romantic comedy will then be screened in the United States, Canada, Saipan, Hong Kong and Macau on Friday and in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, France and Finland the following day.
“My Love Will Make You Disappear” centers on Sari (Chiu), a woman who believes that all the men she loves vanish. She then meets Tahanan Homes’ landlord, Jolo (Avelino), who finds Sari’s curse intriguing and uses it as a chance for him to vanish so as to end his personal suffering.
Directed by Chad Vidanes, the film also features Melai Cantiveros, Wilma Doesnt, Lovely Abella, Benj Manalo, Nico Antonio, Migs Almendras, Martin Escudero, Karina Bautista, Jeremiah Lisbo, Atasha Franco, Kelsey Lasam and Lucas Andalio.
“My Love Will Make You Disappear” marked Chiu and Avelino’s first big-screen collaboration after headlining the Philippine adaptation of the K-drama series “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” and starring in the TV series “Linlang.”
