The story of Avatar continues in the upcoming series “Avatar: Seven Havens,” which is set after the events of “The Legend of Korra.”
“Avatar” creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko confirmed the third installment of the hit animated series in a Facebook post on Friday, February 21, saying it will revolve around an unnamed earthbender who is chosen to be the new Avatar after Korra.
Based on the series, the Avatar is chosen in a cyclic order of Fire, Air, Water, and Earth, where its spirit is reincarnated on whoever will be bestowed the title following the death of their predecessor. Aang of “ The Last Airbender” and Korra of “The Legend of Korra” are air and water benders, respectively.
“‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ is set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra — but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior,” the post read.
Since the series’ airing, the only known earthbender Avatar was Kyoshi, who came before Aang’s predecessor, a firebender named Roku.
The upcoming series also hinted that the chosen earthbender will have a “long-lost twin,” although it didn’t disclose if the twin will possess the same amount of strength.
“Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse,” it said.
DiMartino and Konietzko will serve as co-creators and executive producers of the upcoming series, while Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi were tapped as co-executive producers, per a Variety report. Its premiere date has yet to be announced.
The first installment of the hit series which was named “Avatar: The Last Airbender” premiered in 2005 and ran for three years. Its sequel “The Legend of Korra” was released in 2012 and lasted until 2014.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” was adapted into a live-action series by a streaming platform, which stars Filipino-Canadian actor Gordon Cormier as the titular Aang.
