Despite February being celebrated as a love month, it doesn’t mean moviegoers are only limited to heart-fluttering romance. This Valentine’s 2025, a diverse lineup of films is hitting the big screen — from rom-coms to horrors and thrillers, there surely is something for everyone. So, whether you’re planning a solo watch or a date night, here are the films that you might want to check out this love season.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”

Now showing in local cinemas, Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant have teamed up once more for the fourth installment of the British romantic comedy film series “Bridget Jones’ Diary” after almost a decade since the franchise’s last film.

“Bridget Jones: Mad about the Boy” tells the story of Bridget Jones (Zellweger), a 51-year-old single, widowed mother, navigating the era of dating apps. The film serves as an assurance to the middle-aged who struggle with dating, yet never lose hope to love again in a world where their stories are often neglected.

Aside from Zellweger and Grant, the film also stars Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofor, among others.

“Love Hurts”

Asian talents take center stage in this action comedy film as Filipino-American stunt coordinator Jonathan Eusebio marks his directorial debut with “Love Hurts,” starring Vietnamese-American Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose.

Using Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” as the background music, the trailer sees Huy Quan as an ordinary realtor Marvin Gable trying to escape dangerous situations as he fights old enemies from his dark past.

The film is Huy Quan’s first official lead role after he won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” in 2023.

For those who want a blend of action and comedy, this film is perfect for  “Love Hurts” screens in select cinemas.

“Heart Eyes”

For the people who are bitter about Valentine’s, this romantic slasher film is made just for you. Over the past years, the “Heart Eyes Killer” targets couples on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering them. Can love save them from the gory slasher? 

The film stars Devon Sawa, Mason Gooding, Olivia Holt, Jordana Brewster, Josh Ruben and Gigi Zumbado. It is now showing in select local cinemas.

“Ex Ex Lovers” 

After 25 years, former ’90s love team Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin reunite for the romantic comedy film “Ex Ex Lovers.” 

The duo portray ex-best friends and former lovers who cross paths again, reigniting their connection while navigating the wounds of their shared past.

Magdangal and Agustin’s love team rose to fame after starring in the ’90s films “Flames: The Movie,” “Labs Kita, Okey Ka Lang?” and “Hey Babe!” 

Directed by JP Habac, “Ex Ex Lovers” also features Juan Karlos and Loisa Andalio in supporting roles.

“Paquil”

This faith-based drama tells the story of Christina (Beauty Gonzalez), who is on a mission to restore her ancestral hometown of Pakil, Laguna’s fading legacy of komedya, a traditional theatrical form that is connected with the town’s rich history. 

Christina’s journey becomes more colorful when she meets Paolo (JM de Guzman). Together, they form a deep connection and shared interest in salvation, finding healing and love within themselves. 

The film also marks Gonzalez’s daughter Olivia Crisologo’s acting debut as she plays the younger version of her mother in the story.

Captain America: Brave New World”

Superhero fans, arise as the fourth Captain America film is directed by first-time Marvel director Julius Onah, who grew up in the Philippines before making his foray into Hollywood, making it worthy to be included in your February watchlist.

“Captain America: Brave New World” follows Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in his first solo film in the franchise. After being a sidekick to Rogers (Chris Evans) in past movies, Sam officially becomes Captain America at the end of his debut Disney+ series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” in 2021.

“Everything about My Wife”

Real-life celebrity couple Jennylyn Mercado (Imo Karuhatan) and Dennis Trillo (Dom Brizuela) portray a married couple in peril after realizing that they share so many differences seven years after tying the knot.

As they try to navigate the hardships, Trillo’s Dom seeks the help of his friend Miguel (Sam Milby), a serial womanizer, to seduce Imo. However, the plan meets a dramatic turn after the latter unexpectedly falls in love with his wife. 

“Everything about My Wife” hits local cinemas on Feb. 26.

“The Room Next Door”

The film that received a 17-minute standing ovation at the 2024 Venice Film Festival is set to have its official Philippine premiere on Feb. 19 following its one-time showing at QCinema last year.

Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton play disconnected friends, who met in their youths at a magazine job, and whose lives took different paths. 

Ingrid (Moore) writes novels while Martha (Swinton) becomes a war reporter. After years apart, they cross paths as Ingrid finds out Martha has cancer and is in a nearby hospital.

“Nosferatu”

Having its Philippine premiere on Feb. 26, “Nosferatu” is Robert Eggers’s gothic reimagining of the classic 1922 vampire film of the same name, a tale of obsession between a haunted young woman, Ellen (Lily Rose-Depp), and the vampire Nosferatu (Bill Skarsgård) as the latter becomes infatuated with the former, causing untold horror in his wake.

The gothic horror film has already grossed $95.5 million in the United States and Canada box office.

Aside from Skarsgård and  Rose-Depp, “Nosferatu” also features Nicolas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe, among others.
