Regine Velasquez recounted the time when she suffered from migraine for a whole month so that she couldn’t help but hit her head and submerge it in water in an attempt to stop the extreme pain.

Migraine, according to Mayo Clinic, is a “headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head.”

Asia’s Songbird opened up about this in an interview with showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz, as seen on the latter’s two-part vlog on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Diaz brought up the matter when he asked the singer if the old writeups about her hitting her head on the wall due to migraine were true.

“I suffer from migraine. It started nung mga 35 years old ako,” she said. “Mataas ‘yung tolerance ko for pain, but I have never felt anything like that.”

“‘Yung parang luluwa ‘yung mata mo, parang matatanggal lahat ng ngipin mo, ‘yung buong [ulo] mo masakit,” she described the pain. “‘Yung araw, kahit nakapikit ka masakit siya; ‘yung sa sound.”

The singer then recalled the month-long migraine she had prior to her menopause about two years ago.

“Imagine mo, every single day meron kang extreme pain. ‘Di ba gusto mong tumalon sa bangin? For the pain to stop, ginagano’n ko ‘yung ulo ko, nilulublob ko sa tubig ‘yung ulo ko,” she narrated while mimicking how she thumped her head then.

“Walang painkiller na gumagana… Ako sinasaksakan na ako ng pain reliever pero wala,” she said. “Nasisira na ‘yung ulo ko. Sumisigaw na talaga ako sa asawa ko (Ogie Alcasid), ‘Hon, make it stop. Make it stop. It’s so painful.'”

Velasquez further disclosed that there was a time when she had to annually undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to get checked for aneurysm.

She added that she was also once rushed to the emergency room because the veins in her head had already bulged due to a weeks-long migraine.

Velasquez shared that she even talked to fellow celebrities Sunshine Dizon and Donita Rose who also suffered from migraine. The singer then lamented how others dismiss their pain from migraine and say that they are just being dramatic over it.

“For people na hindi nakakaranas ng gano’ng pain, you can say that. Pero ‘pag naranasan niyo, maiintindihan niyo kung bakit,” she said. “Debilitating talaga.”
