MMFF 2024 screenings extended to January 14 in select cinemas

The Metro Manila Film Festival‘s (MMFF) official entries will continue screening in select cinemas until January 14, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday.

The annual film festival, organized by the MMDA and now on its 50th year, was originally scheduled to run from December 25, 2024, to January 7, 2025, during which cinemas are enjoined to screen just the 10 film entries, while foreign films are excluded.

Due to the one-week extension, complimentary passes will also be honored until January 14, according to the MMDA.

MMDA chairman and concurrent MMFF overall chairman Don Artes expressed gratitude for the public’s unwavering support of the festival.

“We, at the MMFF, are overwhelmed with the continued support of the public for the festival’s 50th edition. Due to public clamor, we have decided to extend the theatrical run of the MMFF movies to further showcase the locally produced films that are truly impressive and artistically excellent,” Artes said in a statement on Monday.

He is also hopeful that the festival’s earnings will increase further with the extension.

The MMFF is an annual film festival held every December dedicated to promoting and preserving the Philippine cinema industry.

During its run, only locally produced films are screened in theaters nationwide, with exceptions for IMAX and 4D theaters.

Proceeds from the MMFF are distributed to various film industry beneficiaries, including the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council, the Optical Media Board, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Artes noted.
