Over October vocalist Josh Buizon is in awe of how 2024 ended, recalling being hospitalized due to a vehicular accident on Christmas Day and getting engaged to his non-showbiz girlfriend on New Year’s Eve.
Buizon looked back at his hospitalization and engagement on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Jan. 1, while sharing photos of his hospital visit and the moment his partner Thea accepted his marriage proposal.
“I almost died on Christmas Day. I got into a vehicular accident on the highway and spent Christmas night in the hospital. I fractured my left wrist in 13 places, injured my lungs, and suffered a few sprains, scratches, and bruises,” he said, thanking his family and doctors for being a huge help in his recovery.
At the time, the musician was planning to propose to Thea on Christmas Eve, but getting a “second chance” from God changed his plans, which eventually led to his proposal on New Years Eve.
“God made it all work out. He gave me a second chance at life. I had organized the ring in advance and asked her family for their blessing on the 24th. My surgery went well,” he said. “I was discharged on New Year’s Eve. That same night, I got to propose to Thea.”
Buizon admitted that being confined in the hospital and getting engaged in the “last week of 2024 felt like a movie.” Despite his injuries, he’s happy to gain his “forever.”
“From tragedy to the happiest moment of my life, my last week of 2024 felt like a movie. I nearly lost everything, but instead, I gained forever,” he said. “Kicking off 2025 with my beautiful fiancée… and my New Year’s resolution: ‘pay medical bills.’”
Meanwhile, Thea gave a closer glimpse at the princess-cut engagement ring on her Instagram page, as well as photos of herself with Buizon.
“To forever and whatever comes next,” she captioned her post.
The couple was congratulated by singer-songwriter Paolo Sandejas and Ella Pangilinan in the comments.
Buizon is the lead vocalist and in charge of rhythm guitars of Over October, an indie and alternative rock band. It is also composed of Joshua Caleb Lua, Joric Canlas, Anton Rodriguez, and Janessa Geronimo.
Some of the five-piece act’s songs include “Kaakit-akit,” “Sandali Lang,” “Ating Dalawa,” “Ikot,l” and “Intertwine,” to name a few.
