While still riding on the success of musical film “Wicked: Part I,” starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the production company behind the box office hit has announced the title of the much-awaited sequel, which is set to premier in November 2025.
Originally titled “Wicked: Part II,” the title was announced on the film’s social media platforms on Tuesday, December 17. The clip included the piano accompaniment of “For Good,” which is included in the original musical.
“You will be changed. Wicked: For Good, only in theaters November 21, 2025,” the post read.
“For Good” is included in Act Two of the original Broadway musical, which originally starred Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as Elphaba and Glinda, respectively.
The song was performed by Elphaba and Glinda after the “Wicked Witch of the West” ultimately decides to surrender after capturing Dorothy Gale to obtain Nessarose’s shoes, with the two friends tearfully bidding goodbye to each other.
“Wicked: Part I” premiered in theaters 21 years after the Broadway musical’s first staging, with Erivo and Grande taking charge as the lead characters.
The Jon M. Chu-helmed film also stars Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Peter Dinklage. Chenoweth and Menzel also made a cameo appearance.
Per reports, the sequel to the hit 2024 will feature two new songs written by Stephen Schwartz, the original composer and lyricist of the Broadway musical, although further details are yet to be revealed.
