The legal counsel of Neri Naig said the embattled actress-businesswoman “was not informed of the charges” made against her, despite being arrested over complaints of syndicated estafa and securities violations.
In a message to INQUIRER.net on Monday, December 2, Naig’s co-counsel Atty. Aureli Sinsuat said that even though her camp is “unable to make any statements” on her pending cases, he pointed out that the actress-businesswoman is not informed about the accusations made against her.
“In compliance with the sub judice rule, we are unable to make any statements on the cases pending against Neri Miranda before the courts,” he said. “It is unfortunate that Neri was not informed of the charges against her beforehand, as we would have been able to properly explain her side even before this reached the courts.”
Naig, who’s currently detained at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory, was arrested in November following charges of syndicated estafa and securities violations. Since syndicated estafa is a non-bailable offense, there’s a possibility that the actress-businesswoman will spend Christmas and New Year in jail unless the court finds merit for her provisional liberty.
Sinsuat added that Naig’s camp is “confident” that the “Star Circle Quest” alum will be “vindicated of these charges” in the “proper judicial process.”
“We note, however, that similar complaints filed against her in other venues have already been dismissed. We are confident that Neri will be vindicated of these charges through proper judicial processes,” he said.
“We appreciate the heartfelt support that Neri has received from numerous individuals in the press and on social media,” Sinsuat further added.
Naig is currently hospitalized for medical evaluation and is set to be discharged no later than Wednesday, December 3. The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) noted that she has no health issues, and her hospitalization is part of the agency’s standard procedure.
When asked about Naig’s medical evaluation, Sinsuat said her camp has “no further comment.”
