Filipina actress Lourdes Faberes is one of the new faces that will grace the upcoming season two of Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Faberes, who’s known for her role as Kate Fletcher in “The Sandman” TV series, took to Instagram on Tuesday, Nov. 12, to announce her casting as General Sung, describing how her “heart’s full” to be among other Asian talents.
“I’ve been sitting on this news for over a month now, and I’m so thrilled to say I’m joining the @avatarnetflix family! This beautiful show explores so many of the things I deeply believe in, like courage, friendship, and resilience, and that sometimes the greatest adventure is finding somewhere to call home when the rest of the world is on fire,” she began her caption.
“In my whole career in the UK and Europe, I’ve almost always been the lone East Asian on the entire film set. To be amongst a whole sea of Asian talent makes my heart so full. It’s been such a long time coming,” added the actress.
Faberes was born and raised in Manila before she moved to the United Kingdom in 1997. Over the years, the actress appeared in the comedy series “Good Omens,” the historical drama “Knightfall,” the action series “Whiskey Cavalier,” and the 2021 James Bond film “No Time to Die.”
Aside from the Filipina actress, season two also added actors Chin Han as Long Feng, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, and Rekha Sharma as Amita.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” also features Filipino-Canadian Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kiawentiio (Katara), Dallas Liu (Prince Zuko), Ian Ousley (Sokka), Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Uncle Iroh) and Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai).
In September, Japanese-Chinese-American actress Miya Cech also announced that she will be taking on the role of the earthbending master Toph Beifong in season two. As of writing, the production is currently underway.
“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is the live-action adaptation of the animated series of the same name, which ran from 2005 to 2008. It tells the story of Aang, the last airbender of his kind, who’s faced with the responsibility to save the four nations from the militaristic control of the Fire Nation.
