While the camp of Miss Grand International 2024 second runner-up Thae Su Nyein of Myanmar has yet to address her controversial outburst at the pageant, she piqued the attention of netizens after she was absent from its post-coronation activities.

Thae made headlines after she was seen sobbing at the end of Miss Grand International (MGI) 2024’s coronation while being carried by her staff off the stage, as recorded by pageant platform Missosology last October 25. Meanwhile, the Myanmar-based national director Htoo Ant Lwin ripped off her golden crown and second-runner-up sash.

In a separate video, Htoo shouted at someone recording a video of him assisting Thae, who was still crying. He also made a cryptic post on his Facebook page, saying, “Bye forever.”

Despite this, Thae’s camp remained silent on the controversial videos circulating on social media. She was absent from the pageant’s post-coronation shoot with reigning titleholder Rachel Gupta, and fellow runners-up CJ Opiaza (Philippines), Safietou Kabengele (France), and Talita Hartmann (Brazil).

It remains unknown if Thae Su Nyein will be stripped of her title, as of press time.

Despite this, Thae was one of the strongest performers in MGI’s 2024 iteration. She bagged the Miss Beauty Skin and I’Aura Queen special awards, and ranked second in the pageant’s Miss Popular Vote and Country Power of the Year categories.
