Nicole Cordoves was officially announced as the first-ever ambassador for Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global ahead of the pageant’s initiation next year.
Cordoves’ ambassadorship was made formal on Thursday, Oct. 24, in a media launch as CHiNOY TV also officially launched the first-ever Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global (MMCG), a global cultural pageant designed to highlight the diverse backgrounds of its participants.
Cordoves, who was crowned Miss Chinatown in 2014, shared that she wants to be as present and supportive as possible to the candidates.
“I think my primary objective is really being there for the candidates and the collaboration with the organization. Kasi alam ko na ‘yung kiliti ng mga pageant fans talaga (because I already know what the pageant fans want). This is the first time we’re doing it so we’re facing a blank page. I just want to be there in the moment,” she said.
The 32-year-old beauty queen also underscored that the qualities and values that will help aspirants win the pageant are having the initiative to backtrack to their roots and culture.
“It would really help if we see the candidate who really makes an effort to revisit their roots, culture, and tell their stories; for instance, this is the story the world needs to know, especially because in recent years, there’s this thing, Asian hate, among others,” she stated.
Cordoves won the titles Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2016 and 1st Runner-Up at Miss Grand International 2016 in previous years.
Aside from her pageantry roots, Cordoves is also active in her hosting duties. She co-hosted Binibining Pilipinas 2018 with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and actor Richard Gutierrez.
In 2021, she and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray took on the hosting duties for the 57th Binibining Pilipinas, the first pageant in the Philippines with all-female hosts.
Cordoves then again joined the hosting stint for Binibining Pilipinas 2022 and returned as co-host with Gray and Mary Jean Lastimosa for Binibining Pilipinas 2023.
Meanwhile, for its first year, Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global is looking for 12 official candidates, male and female, of mixed Chinese descent, aged 18 to 30.
The pageant will showcase six participants representing the Philippines and six others who will represent other countries.
The Manila screening will be held on Oct. 26 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central in Binondo, Manila.
The Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global pageant will run from Jan. 12 to 25, 2025, culminating in an exciting Winner’s Night at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, coinciding with the celebration of Chinese New Year.
